The Dynastic Politics or the Country Obsessed with Dynasty: Rahul Gandhi bears the brunt for speaking truth
On
12th September, Rahul Gandhi spoke at University of California and
yet again, it sparked a controversy and political debate in the Indian
political circle and among the Indian Diaspora globally. What Mr. Rahul Gandhi
said is that, basically the whole of India has been managed, run or
administrated through a government headed by dynasties. Then, he continued,
that India is a dynastic country where children from one family are offered the
leadership in silver plate. The lives, dreams and plight of Indians is offered
on a silver plate to someone who has no qualification to govern the country or
manage the political business. And Rahul Gandhi is one such person. He is given
the responsibility, though he is not capable, to run the Congress Party, which is
the oldest political party that spearheaded the India’s Freedom Movement and
achieved it by mobilizing and uniting the whole of India into the movement.
While Mr Rahul Gandhi spoke about Dynasty at the University, it was a good to
hear that he said that “everyone in India is a dynast”. This is so true! India
is indeed dynastic country, and that too, for decades and still the evil of
dynasty is infecting the society. The few names which Mr Rahul Gandhi took
during his speech, he was right. India, from North to South and East to West,
almost diagnostically, each and every field of business or activity is
inflicted with dynasty.
In
politics, Abdullah’s and Mufti’s in Jammu & Kashmir, Badal’s in Punjab,
Yadav’s in Uttar Pradesh, Thackarey’s, Munde’s. in Maharashtra, Naidu family in
Andhra Pradesh, KCR family in Telangana, Karunanidhi family in Tamil Nadu, etc.
are some of the examples that show how dynastic politics is running the government.
Similarly, in all fields, like Indian Cinema, new comers hardly have any
opportunity to achieve success until or unless they have any background or
support from the already established personalities or they have some with the
family. While Mr Rahul Gandhi took the name of Abhishek Bachan, Raj Kapoor’s
family is the first and foremost example that shows Bollywood is run and
managed by the dynasties. Apart from Raj Kapoor, we have Dharmendra’s family,
Jeetendra’s family, Rakesh Roshan, Salim Khan’s family, and many more to come
in Bollywood. Down south, in Telangana, the families of Late Mr. NT Rama Rao, Chiranjeevi,
Late Sri. D.Rama Naidu, Late. Sri. A. Nageswara Rao, call the shots and there
are rarely any months that do not see any movies coming from these families.
While
there are debates on dynasty in politics and film industry, I remember the arguments
made by noted and often criticized film maker, Mr. Ram Gopal Varma, who says
that dynastic business, politics, etc. is not a new thing and that, it is
common. He gives example of a Father giving his assets to his children and
questions, why would a father give his assets/ learning not give to his son.
His point of view is correct, as we see in the field of art where artists would
want their children to be artists too. While his views look legitimate in the
fields of business and art, but in politics, it is risky as it may give undue
powers and authority to a person who is not capable to govern the nation. While
democracy ensures this, but it is too costly to allow to run politics in
dynasty.
